Setting Wellness Goals This New Year

Set Attainable Wellness Goals this Year

As the new year comes around, many start evaluating their goals for self-improvement. While this is always a great thing to do, the problem is that many set lofty goals that are practically impossible to reach, or they set too vague of goals that are difficult to follow through with. When setting your goals (wellness, work, or otherwise) for the year, keep these tips in mind, and keep reading for some ideas for wellness goals.

How to Set a Goal

Setting your goals the right way is essential to your success with said goals. Remember these tips when setting your goals for 2022.

1. Consider the results you want

Before you get into the nitty-gritty of goal-setting, consider what you’re trying to achieve. Is this goal something you want, or is it something you think you should want/something someone else has suggested to you? Is it important enough to put significant time and energy into? If the answer is “no,” then it may not be worth it.

If you’re setting more than one goal, consider the importance of each one. Set a hierarchy of goals and devote more energy to the first few.

2. Make sure your goals are SMART

Most people find that, in order to complete their goal, they have to be SMART. Your goal should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. This will help you take the right steps you need to see the results you want. For example, don’t say “lose weight.” Say you want to lose 25 pounds (specific and measurable) by August (attainable, realistic, and time-bound).

3. Write them down

If you let your goals float around your brain for the year, chances are, you won’t complete them. They’ll fall to the wayside as you focus on other things. Writing them down makes them tangible and real. If you can put them on a white board, a mirror, or a computer screen, that is even better. This constantly reminds you of the goals you want to hit every time you see it, which will motivate you to keep going.

Display your plan of action so that you know precisely if you are hitting the goals you want to. The best way to make a plan of action is to create a timeline. For example, if you want to lose 25 pounds by August, you should create a timeline of milestones, such as 1 pound a week, or five pounds by January 31, 10 pounds by April 5, and so forth.

4. Reevaluate and reassess

Pick a time, perhaps twice a month, to reevaluate how your progress is going. If you feel stressed by the amount of work you’ve set for yourself, try cutting down on each one goal to see if this works better. If you feel you could do more, then adapt your goal accordingly. Chances are, as the year goes on you will better figure out a routine that works well for you.

Wellness Goals to Consider

If you are looking to start an all-around healthier lifestyle, consider adding some of these wellness goals to your list of 2022 resolutions.

Add more fruits and vegetables to your diet

Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and water– all things your body desperately needs. Set a goal for fruits and vegetables for the day, or a number for each meal. You will not only feel better, but feel fuller, as servings of fruits and vegetables are quite high.

Hydrate first thing in the morning

Between reducing inflammation, clearing our skin, and helping with bloating just to name a few, it really seems like water can fix all our problems. Set your day up right by hydrating with a full glass of water right when you wake up, before your coffee and breakfast. You’ll find yourself energized as you get your day started.

Use natural beauty products

Your skin prefers natural products over items with immeasurable chemicals. Use natural scrubs, cleansers, moisturizers, and makeup for happier skin. Before making these jumps, however, make sure you know your skin type. For instance, if you are naturally oily and have clogged pores, something like coconut oil would not be the best choice for you.

Be active daily

Try to be active for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. It can seem hard to attain with a busy lifestyle, but it doesn’t have to be. Break up your 30 minutes of activity in half, or even thirds, throughout the day. Three 10-minute brisk walks can make a world of difference to your overall health. Motivate yourself by setting goals with a workout buddy. Whether these are walking goals or more hardcore exercise goals, any amount of activity will be beneficial to you.

Get a good night sleep regularly

Sleep is essential to overall wellness. Our body uses sleep to rejuvenate and recoup. Poor sleep can really be damaging to one’s health. While no one can guarantee good sleep every night, one of the best ways to get it is to have a night-time regimen you follow (for example: shower, read, lights out by 11:30). Your body will grow accustomed to this schedule and naturally feel tired as you prepare for bed.
